Coastal Cocktails With A Southern Twist
Recently, there has been a huge buzz about the restaurant Thangabali which specializes in classic and authentic South Indian food so we went out on a venture to try out this place. This place serves dishes and beverages from all the five states of South India. It has two location; Andheri West and Mahim in Mumbai.
Besides their amazing and delicious food we also came across a wide spread of very unique and unusual cocktails. We tried a few and here’s our honest review:
1. Dill Or No Dill
This cocktail is gin based. The flavor of this drink is very melony with a slight and subtle flavor of dill leaves. The dill leaves are muddled along with lemon wedges and nutmeg flower. Then it is added with a sweetener, melon syrup, gin, pineapple juice and ice and is shaken to alcoholic goodness. So it’s a must try if you like melon.
2.Nariyal Kuppa
This was one of the highlights of our visit. The cocktail highlights the flavor of coconut with pineapple but the taste of rum is not very prominent and overpowering so people who like light cocktails can opt for this one. Pineapple chunks and lemon wedges muddled and add with a sweetener, coconut syrup, pineapple juice and a touch of fresh lemon juice and shaken to perfection.
3.Aiyo Machhan
Specially for vodka lovers! It has a very strong vodka hit with a subtle sourness of cranberry juice with an interesting tinge of burnt cinnamon. Crushed ice drenched in vodka added with ginger juice and cranberry juice and is served with lemon slices in a highball glass. A burnt cinnamon stick is dunked in it to enchance it’s aroma.
Overall we highly recommend thangabali for the taste of coastal india. Apart from all the amazing beverages, the muttton stew with appam is a must try.So it was basically a not to miss experience.
